- (20%) A watershed has two portions: (1) an undeveloped portion, of 35 ac and runoff coefficient C= 0.3,
and (2) a developed portion, of 60 ac and C = 0.65. If the 10-yr rainfall intensity is 0.5 in/hr; what is the
peak flow by the rational method?
- (20%) A trapezoidal channel is to be designed to convey 280 cfs. The bottom width is b = 10 ft, the side slope
is z = 1 (1 H : 1 V), the bottom slope is 0.001, and the Manning's n= 0.014. Calculate the design flow depth
using trial and error.
- (20%) A rectangular channel has a discharge q = 2 m3/sec/m. What is the critical depth?
- (40%) Please answer questions in a brief statement.
- What is baseflow? Where does it come from?
- What is the time of concentration? What variables does it depend on?
- What is the difference between the Manning and Chezy equations?
- What four forces are normally present in open-channel hydraulics? What two of these forces are present
in hydraulic jump analysis?
- What is the lowest value of Manning's n measured by Barnes? What is the lowest value of Manning's n?
- What is the definition of the Froude number? What is its meaning?
- What is the definition of the Vedernikov number? What is its meaning?
- What is the maximum value of Froude number that can be encountered in practice? Why?
