CIV E 530 - OPEN-CHANNEL HYDRAULICS
SPRING 2005
HOMEWORK No. 8

  1. (50 percent) Using DIRECTSTEP in http://onlinecomp.sdsu.edu, calculate the water surface profile for the case of a steep channel flowing into a milder steep channel (S3 curve), with steep slope So= 0.04, and milder steep slope So= 0.01, with the following conditions: Q = 20 m3/s; b = 2.50 m; z = 1; and n = 0.016.

Use CHANNEL in http://onlinecomp.sdsu.edu to calculate the upstream flow depth. Report the upstream normal depth, the downstream normal depth and the S3 curve channel length (to within 1 mm below normal depth) in m.
