LAB No. 5 DEMONSTRATION:  UNIFORM FLOW

Objective: To demonstrate the establishment of uniform flow under several Froude numbers.

  • The friction equation is:

    So = f F2

    Assume f = 0.002 for the bench flume (acrylic glass).

  • Run three cases:

    • Very steep slope:  So = 0.06

    • Steep slope:  So = 0.01

    • Critical slope:  So = 0.002

  • Calculate Froude numbers for the three conditions.

  • Summarize findings in a short report. Answer the question: What have I learned from this experience?
