LAB No. 8 DEMONSTRATION: SLUICE GATE
Objective: To demonstrate the principles of the sluice gate using the energy principle.
- Formulas:

- With the flume setup running, set y2 to about 20 mm and measure:
- Bottom width B
- All three depths y1, y2, and y3
- Calculate:
- Discharge Q using Equation 1.
- Discharge Q using Equation 4.
- Compare discharges calculated in Steps 3a and 3b.
- Set y2 to about 30 mm and calculate Q using Eq. 4.
- Write a short (one-page) report summarizing the findings.
