CIV E 444 - APPLIED HYDRAULICS
SPRING 2016
LAB No. 11
- Design a circular concrete culvert with the following data: Q = 320 cfs;
inlet invert elevation = 200 ft; bottom slope = 0.01;
culvert length = 150 ft; tailwater depth above outlet invert = 4.5 ft; roadway shoulder elevation = 220 ft;
Manning's n = 0.015; entrance type is square edge with headwalls, and upstream freeboard = 2 ft.
At what discharge would the culvert diameter be required to be 0.5 ft larger??
Use ONLINE CULVERT.
- Determine the rating for an ogee-type spillway with length L = 12 m, design head H = 1.0 m,
crest elevation at 170 m, and river bed elevation at 155 m. Neglect the approach velocity.
Compare with ONLINE OGEE RATING.
- A hydraulic jump is formed in a rectangular channel.
The upstream depth and velocity are y1 = 0.2 ft
and v1 = 10 fps, respectively. What is the energy loss?
Verify with ONLINE CHANNEL 12.
