  1. Derive the Penman equation (Eq. 2-36 of the text).

          

  2. Use the Penman method to calculate the evaporation rate for the following atmospheric conditions: month of July; mean air temperature: 20°C; mean net radiation: 525 cal/cm2/d; wind speed at 2-m above the surface: v2 = 180 km/d; relative humidity: 30%. Verify with Online Penman.

  3. Use the Thornthwaite method to calculate the potential evapotranspiration during the month of July for a geographic location at 40°N, with the following mean monthly temperatures, in degrees Celsius. Verify with Online Thornthwaite.
