HOMEWORK No. 1 SOLUTION

  1. Using ONLINE GUMBEL:   Q100 = 9383 cfs

  2. The USGS State equations for California's South Coast is:

    Q100 (cfs) = 1.95 A0.83 (sq.mi.) P1.87 (in.)

    Q100 (cfs) = 1.95 × 1850.83 × 161.87

    Q100 (cfs) = 26,515 cfs.

  3. Use water balance equations, and Kr = R/P.

    P = 32; ET = V = 22, U = 3.

    P = R + V

    R = P - V = 32 - 22 = 10

    Runoff coefficient Kr = R/P = 10/32 = 0.31.

  4. Use RATIONAL with U.S. Customary units, C = 0.7, I = 2, and A = 325.

    Q10 = 458.7 cfs.
