HOMEWORK No. 11

  1. A pump with characteristics shown in the figure below (Fig. 8-5) has a diameter of 40 cm and is operated at a speed of 1000 rpm. What is the discharge when the head is 3 m? What power in kilowatts is required for these conditions?

  2. A pump with the same characteristics as in Problem 1 (Fig. 8-5) has a diameter of 30 cm and is operated at a speed of 1200 rpm. What is the head when the discharge is 0.25 m3/s? What power in kilowatts is required for these conditions?

  3. A pump has the characteristics shown below (Figs. 8-8 and 8-9, respectively). At what speed should the pump be operated at maximum efficiency under a head of 80 m? What would be the discharge for this head? What power would be required?

  4. The performance curve of a certain pump is given by:   H = 70 - 700 Q 2, with H in m and Q in m3/s. Given the system shown below, what is the discharge and corresponding head at the system operating point? Assume sharp entrance and exit losses.
