HOMEWORK No. 1


1. Calculate the celerity and attenuation functions of the dynamic wave.

2. Use dimensionles wavenumbers varying smoothly between 0.01 and 1000.

3. For celerity, use Froude numbers of 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 1, 2, 4, and 10.

4. For attenuation, use Froude numbers between 0.01 and 1.8, and 2.2 to 10.

5. Plot dimensionless relative wave celerity vs dimensionless wavenumber for the chosen set of Froude numbers. Use logarithmic scales.

6. Plot logarithmic decrement δ vs dimensionless wavenumber for the chosen set of Froude numbers (2 graphs). Use logarithmic scales.

7. For Froude numbers of 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, and 1.0, determine the dimensionless wavenumbers for which the celerity is 1% is more than the Seddon speed.

8. For Froude numbers of 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, and 1.0, determine the dimensionless wavenumbers for which the celerity is 1% less than the Lagrange speed.

9. Write a short report describing the work performed and conclusions reached.

Note: The attenuation functions are not required (items 4 and 6).
